A Bend in the Road
By Eamon McEneaney
Cornell University Library publishes poetry collection by lacrosse great Eamon McEneaney
ITHACA, NY: The Cornell University Library announces the publication of A Bend in the Road, a collection of poems by Eamon J. McEneaney, Cornell alumnus and one of the greatest lacrosse players of all time.
The publication of this volume is particular poignant, since Eamon McEneaney did not live to see the realization of one of his lifelong dreams. Although he survived the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center when he led 60 people to safety, he lost his life in the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001 while at work on the 105th floor of the North Tower.
Eamon McEneaney was loved for his sense of humor, his passion for life, his determination to succeed, and his deep compassion for others in need. After his death, his widow, Bonnie, and one of his closest friends, John Gilbert, were determined that his dream of becoming a published poet would be recognized, and they have tirelessly worked towards this goal. On December 6th, 2004, A Bend in the Road, a collection of Eamon McEneaney's poems will be released.
Proceeds from the sale of the book will be used to support the Eamon McEneaney Visiting Irish Writers Series at Cornell and the Cornell University Library.

Child of Mine, Know This
By Rebecca Gittrich Whitecotton
Child of Mine, Know This is a loving message reminding children of all ages that their physical bodies are just a part of who they are.
It's an inspirational message for parents who believe that their children's beautiful spirits are thousands of years old and wiser than we imagine.
It's a heartfelt reminder of the bond between parents and children that was perhaps created over the course of many lifetimes, and the promises we made to each other before we embarked on this journey of life.
When parents and children are able to see each other through spiritual eyes, they can look past the illusion of separateness and enter into the unconditional love of oneness with Spirit.

Crumpled Paper Dolls
A New Orleans Poet
By Matthew Nolan
Matthew Nolan is a New Orleans writer living in the artistic
Lower Garden District. He can be seen taking the St. Charles Streetcar to local
poetry readings and bicycling through French Quarter haunts. Nolan holds degrees
in behavioral science, theatre arts, general education, and studied emergency
medicine. He has been nationally awarded for his outstanding academic
achievements and community leadership.
Nolan has performed in numerous Shakespeare productions and major motion
pictures. He is a nationally published writer in the Sigma Kappa Delta Hedera
helix, Sigma Tau Delta Gyre, Muse, and Athenian.
In Crumpled Paper Dolls, Nolan ignites our senses, depicting the world without
filters, demanding examination and self-reflection. With vivid imagery of words,
he holds a mirror to our face and makes us see the ugly child we hide away. This
at first seems like a distortion but is really an honesty that makes us
uncomfortable. His journals chronicle the struggle of a man and his dream in a
world of trials and a mind of dark shadows. In Nolan's writing, nothing is good
or bad. It just is. His writing takes us to a place we don't want to talk about
but now may be willing to discuss.

Deep Down in the Delta
Folktales and Poems
By Greg Alan Brownderville
Deep Down in the Delta contains fascinating folktales gathered recently in
the Delta, along with poems by Delta native and one of the South's most
promising young voices, Greg Alan Brownderville. Topics include Voodoo, magic,
ghosts, haunted houses, and blues lore. Feel the mystique of the Delta’s oceanic
landscape. Venture into an eerie cypress jungle and swim a haunted bayou. Facing
flocks of ghosts and swarming, black blizzards of mosquitoes, Brownderville
invites you along as he explores the present-day folklore of the birthplace of
the blues. The Delta, a region known as “The Deepest of the Deep South,” is the
poorest place in America. It has also produced or inspired the likes of William
Faulkner, Eudora Welty, Johnny Cash, Robert Johnson, Walker Percy, Richard
Wright, Shelby Foote, Muddy Waters, Jack Butler, Ellen Gilchrist, Lewis Nordan,
and many others. Deep Down in the Delta offers a privileged glimpse beneath the
veil of the most enigmatic region of the South.- Item#

El hombre de las suelas de viento (1879-1891)
By David González
The English translation of the title is: The Man with the Sole of the Wind
The poet David González just published a book "The Man With the Sole of Wind."
It's a book of poems which approaches the last years of another poet, Arthur
Rimbaud, during the years of 1879-1891. What David González did, writing this
homage, is really unique; it's an act of possession and communion. The Asturian
poet wished to create a book of poems, taking 84 letters the French poet wrote
to his family and friends, where Rimbaud returns to life, tells us about his
suffering, his illness, the amputation of his leg, the labor exploitation, his
loneliness in Africa, the meanness of his work, his failure, and his anxiety
state.
The theme of this book is anxiety and suffering. In this ribaldian vision of
González, the desperation also appears because Rimbaud was a man who navigated
in this frail nave of the desperate. David González went up to the grief of
Rimbaud not to his legend, not to his topic of being damned. He didn't chose a
Rimbaud out of tune, a Rimbaud "bad boy" who glittered at the side of Paul
Verlaine in the literary Paris. He chose a destroyed man in Africa. He chose the
twilight Rimbaud, moved away from poetry, moved away from any vanity. He chose
the Rimbaud whose only pride is to survive and not suffer anymore. Therefore,
this book of David González is special, different, and important.
This review was originally in Spanish. Its translation is by Dagmar Buchholz.
This work is only in Spanish. However, MANA will provide an English translation
of the first three pages. This translation is made by Carol Bueno O'Donnell,
head of the Language Department of Mott Community College, Flint, MI- Item# ZZ7088

Galleria
A Collection of Poetry and the Short Story "Three Lonesome Travelers"
By John J. Petrolino III
From the Forward by David Amram: It is a pleasure to sit in a quiet place and read "Galleria" by John Petrolino.
Many of these poems I have heard while accompanying John in readings we have done together, but even if I didn't know or ever have had the chance to hear his outstanding renditions of his own work, I could hear his voice just by reading what he put down on paper…
Like two other merchant seamen who influenced my earlier life, my uncle David Amram and Jack Kerouac, John Petrolino's poetry expresses the introspection and keen observation that all who go to sea develop in their writing.
Like Jack London and Herman Melville, he knows how to tell a story and make you feel part of it…
“On Petrolino’s Writing” By Poet Frank Messina:
“John Petrolino’s writing comes from a man at sea both literally and figuratively; a man who travels the world in a constant quest of discovery and self-examination, observing from a distance, from a vessel off-shore. Off-shore from the mainland, but so close to the heart of America. His work reveals the vulnerability of men. The struggle to balance a life of hard work, love and the meaning of life.”

Lives
By Lucas Hunt
Lives is a rich and lyrical collection of poems – both a
passionate and occasionally ironical account of life in a modern world of
infinite possibility. Here is the full spectrum of the varied colors of human
experience from the pleasantly erotic to the disturbingly violent. The poet
breaks from contemporary forms of expression to confront reality and the beyond,
and to communicate powerful truths about eternal situations.
Filled with vivid (and visceral) imagery of work, love, dreams, and death, these
poems celebrate the phenomenal aspects of life while acknowledging the futility
of our continual search for meaning. The need for ritual, reason, and
intoxication all serve as (black) comic relief from the all-too-common
experience of tragedy.
Hear this invocation from one of the new poets of our age:
Of origins beyond explanation,
ruled by laws unknown,
Come spirit of poetry, muse,
sing us something new!

Pink Apples
A Short Anthology of Poetry and Prose
By Antonia Chloé Anjulika Goyal and Muna Chakrabarti Goyal
This short collection of poetry and prose has been written to
display how the mind of a child and adult can express human emotion through
language.
Even before birth we are subject to sensory stimulation, whether a heartbeat,
warmth, light or touch. This is the way early childhood is experienced and
continues into adulthood being expressed through language and art. When we give
children a chance to express their unadulterated emotion we enter their
interpretation of the outside world. Encouraging observation is a cornerstone of
teaching children to think outside the boundaries of conventionality.
The poem Moonbug, stems directly from
Chloé’s experience in Florida when out in
the evening looking at the night sky she has come in later and been dismayed to
see bites on her arms and legs.
Sometimes funny, silly or sad these poems are presented to provoke thought in
children and those adults fortunate enough to read to them.
Seeing the world through a child’s eyes refreshes our perspective. For the child
such a connection with an adult sets up a lifelong love of learning.
We hope you enjoy these poems and that you encourage your children to write,
draw and celebrate the gift of imagination!-
